Stafford hasn't let go of many of the JW doctrines. He has moved on, not let go. Two different things.

The problem with protesting JWs is that IT FULFILLS THEIR EXPECTATIONS AND REINFORCES THEIR ERRONEOUS BELIEFS AND PERSECUTION COMPLEX. It does NOT help them in ANY way to get out of the borg. It keeps them in.

The story about the world being worse now than ever is baloney. The world's never been better. EVER.

What was your initial reaction to finding out the religion is a cult?
by make yourself inmine was filled with shock and anger but mostly anger.
it made me feel that way because i have never been lied to like that growing up in the religion with it being all you know.

"...it's turned into a cult."
No it hasn't. It was always a cult. It started out as a cult of personality and then refined itself into a run-of-the-mill, high-control religious cult.
As for the initial question, I don't know how to express the feelings. I'm still in the middle of grief and leaving. The decision making process relating to it all is gut-wrenching. When I first read about the process here I thought fading would be easy and that the people who posted about the emotional trauma of it all were somehow weak. I sincerely apologize for those thoughts and hope I never expressed them here on the forum. It's a horrible feeling leaving the borg, even when you know it's the absolute right thing to do.

I'm with cantleave. Then, in around 15 years some 20-25 year old will post an experience here on JWN about how when he was a kid and his mom dragged him to the Memorial year after year how boring it was until this one time when some guy came in, drank all the wine, then left and how that experience was ingrained in his mind for life.
We'll all look back and laugh.

How might one today countermand Jehovah's Word?
By lying about it and it's meaning. For example, misdefining simple and clear words like "generation" and "fruits" in order to promote your organization's own agenda or by adding to the requirements set forth in the Bible (love God and love neighbor) with thousands of pages of Pharisaical rules and regulations. By 'encouraging fine works' via threats, fear, and guilt. I could go on but I'm getting annoyed just thinking about it.

Another great one, as usual, Blondie. Thanks so much for doing this every week.
Bad fruitage produced by Jehovah's Witnesses ...
They avoid this right off the bat in the very first sentence of the article. How? Much like they do with other words like "generation" they incorrectly define "fruitage" for the reader by claiming that "fruits" are "teaching and conduct" not the results of one's teaching and conduct. This way, it doesn't matter whether their actions and teachings produce harmful results (deaths, divisions, emotional scars, etc.), what matters is that those actions and teachings conform to their twisted interpretatoin of Christianity. Results are ignored completely (unless they can draw some sort of PR angle with them).
This is NOT what Jesus taught. The rest of the chapter (Matthew 7) makes it clear that fruits are results, not teachings and conduct. He even denounces those who's teachings and conduct were Christian and done in his name. Why? Because of their fruits. And in case somebody in his audience was still too thick to 'get it' he gave the illustration of the man building on the rock mass compared to the one building on the sand. It wasn't the choice of rock-mass over sand or the type of building that was the fruit, it was the fact that his house didn't fall down when the storm came.
Therefore, in light of the above, the entire article is bunk because it is based on the false premise put forth in the very first sentence.

The preaching work has been so successful that not one person in a hundred can give a coherent answer to what Jehovah's Witnesses actually believe.
This is true even at the Kingdom Hall.
